Special Kit Paint Offer

Free paint from factory for U.S. kits

Magni Gyro is offering a free, one-color base paint job on any kits sold in the U.S. for the remainder of 2005.  It can run a couple thousand dollars and/or considerable work to paint the steel and fiberglass parts. Magni Gyro is offering to paint all kit parts any single, non-metallic color the U.S. customer would want for no cost.

This may not be a deal maker for the cost you might have for a professional painter do that job, but it will save a lot of time in the build process - you could start assembly immediately upon receipt of the kit!

How does this affect the 51% amateur built criteria?  The Experimental Amateur Built 51% category does allow for "builder's assist". For this experimental kit, the builder is expected to do some of the finish preparation and paint work, but a professional painter can be hired to do professional painting with "builder assist".  The approved 51% kit does considers painting of the fuselage, rudder and airframe as "builder" accomplished.  This means that you may still have to do some painting to meet the 51% kit requirement.  Since the paint from Italy would be a single, solid color (your choice of  non-metallic color), to meet the 51% criteria in the approved kit, the builder should design and prepare and mask some additional accent paint on at least the fuselage, tail and rudder.

The solid base color chosen should be a lighter, non-metallic color to prevent sun/heat damage to the fiberglass on upper surfaces.

FYI:  The new model kits have several new features included at no additional cost:

  • A retracting stick holder cable that holds the stick forward when the gyro is parked - don't need a rope!
  • A new radiator/cooler scheme that eliminates the oil cooler and replaces it with a single radiator with a heat exchanger to provide oil cooling.  This system is now custom produced for Magni - not an auto application.
  • A cockpit adjustable damper system for the radiator/cooler to adjust for ideal running temperatures in flight.  Currently, the radiator, and sometimes the oil cooler, requires blocking plates or strapping to adjust the cooling area to avoid over-cooling.  Magni owners have been requesting such a cockpit adjustable system  - this is the solution to operating under different temperature and altitude extremes without having to adjust the radiator baffling. This system would be analogous to cowl flaps on an airplane.
